Sara Powell, Ms. Appalachian 2009
"My love of motorcycles started when I was a teenager
riding with my Dad on his cruiser."
After college I purchased my first motorcycle and after a few years I got my first Harley Davidson - a beautiful red 1979 FLH. It rode like a Cadillac with its wide tires and dresser suspension, but the ole' shovelhead was tricky
to keep running despite constant tinkering so I finally had to let it go
and move up to a newer ride. Now I ride an '05 Dyna Super Glide which also rides like a dream. I even put the forward controls on myself to fit my long legs.
Being a female biker is very empowering, plus the thrill and pure enjoyment of being in control and free at the same time is awesome. Whether just riding by myself, with friends, or in
large groups, I get to meet and hang out with so many cool and different people. Being selected as Ms. Appalachian Harley Davidson 2009 has added to that fun, I am looking forward to the rest of the year's events.
